My daughter likes living in our house
Having a dedicated home office to herself
And a bigger kitchen and great sunlight
Streaming into a room full of house plants
Now she can get up early in the morning
Without disturbing her sleeping partner
Surprised to discover an unexpected benefit
The gift of having quiet hours time to herself
We are glad they are house sitting for us
While we are on an extended winter sojourn
Pleased our house is not sitting empty
When so many lack adequate living space
Like people living on top of each other
As my friend describes the situation
Sharing his three room apartment
With both grown children these days
And also a grandchild he enjoys
Teaching how to repair broken things
Doing what he can to help them stay housed
But come Friday he's getting a break
Happy to be going away for a few weeks
Invited to stay with a friend in her house
Taking care of two dogs he adores
While she's away on a trip of her own
Getting separation and space to himself
Ready to enjoy every minute alone
Welcoming the chance to be a house sitter
Helping out in the way that he can
