look up

The gibbous moon slides over east

Seen soon after sunset

Approaching Mars waiting there

As a bright red fixture in November

Filling last week's crescent moon

That appeared in the southwest

Passing near paired Jupiter and Saturn

Posing like partners in Autumn

Learning to look up and identify

What few points of light are bright enough

To be seen through the electric night

To witness the shifting slow motion

December promises a convergence

As Jupiter and Saturn cross paths

Going on their wandering way

A comforting constant above us

Though the magnificence of deep space

Glittered with billions of stars

Remains hidden in past worlds

Unless you are very far from city life

When not much is visible in the night sky

My task is simpler trying to learn

What is up there flying in the distance

Unknown unless your eyes go there
