In the next twenty years
The future of life on earth
Without exaggeration
Depends on what we do.
Life will go on of course
In one form or another
No matter that ecosystems collapse
Threatening to take us down.
The way things are now
That leads to dystopian destruction
Unless a different purpose prevails
For the good of the entire planet.
I believe people will rise to the occasion
In time for the world to begin a new day
Overcoming all the obstacles
Put up to block and prevent us.
I can see a shining city of tomorrow
Where everyone is respected
Where sustainable systems work
Surrounded by a great green garden.
But for now the story is a disaster
As the profit imperative rules over us
The government beholden to business
Opposes and denies the obvious.
