Following in familiar footsteps
We go where we have been before
Looking for what was once there
Hoping we chance to see it again
Continuing to loop around the path
Always in the same direction
The memories unfold as we walk
In a repeating sequence
One day it came to us
To look at everything in another way
The same but different
An altered view we now prefer
Retracing our steps as it were
Going in the opposite direction
Getting a different perspective
Which mirrors my outlook these days
Knowing most of my life is behind me
Reviewing where I have been
Considering the steps I have taken
What I knew then and what I know now
Yet there are always new things to discover
And our shared memories keep us connected
Continuing in our annual calendar loop
Time takes us along for the ride
