The gentle spring rain continues
Incessantly dripping down moisture
All day yesterday and into this morning
Predicted to linger here until tonight
The soil soaks up the sweet liquid
Where my seeds will soon germinate
The trees drink deeply sprouting new growth
And I am content to watch from inside
A hummingbird stops by our waiting feeder
Seeking a sip of sugar in the cold and wet
And I go out briefly to replenish the suet tray
Tending to our local avian inhabitants
A disappointment for those with outdoor plans today
Who have looked forward to weekend time off
May the splash of raindrops wash away your dismay
Thankful for this not the desperate drought out west
The expression right as rain comes to mind
Taking liberties with the original meaning
Appreciating the nourishment descending to earth
Filling our reservoirs with life's precious water
