The winter solstice is such a subtle difference
So little changes from one day to the next
Explaining why the celebration is delayed
Several days until the ancients realized
We know the coldest months are coming
Chasing us to relocate closer to the equator
As the cold rain blows out of the north all day
We are inside packing up preparing to leave
Five weeks ago we unpacked our things here
Seeing the place for the first time fronting on the beach
And now we are used to being on the Atlantic shore
With the sound of the waves ever present
But it’s time to be off to our next five week stay
And it’s relatively quick and easy for us to refill the boxes
Each one marked with what goes there
Like putting a familiar puzzle back together
Next stop is the Gulf Coast near the Everglades
Staying in another house also for the first time
Ready to adjust to what we find there
Knowing many places nearby that we like
We will have sugar sand beaches and gentle waves
And long walks in nature preserves to explore
And boardwalks extending through tropical swamps
And everything to see that thrives in this habitat
