I see a group of men with their anti-choice signs
Waiting to shout at any woman who may come
To seek care at the nearby Bread and Roses clinic
Trying to coerce her to have an unwanted child.
I think about going over to shout at these angry men
Menacing women as another form of sexual harassment
About a woman’s right to choose to give birth or not
Though they think that God is on their side.
There can be no time limit to saying no
The right to reject unwanted sexual advances
Goes hand in hand with control over your uterus
And the right to terminate unwanted pregnancy.
Why do men want women bearing children against their will?
I do not understand and I am a man myself
Perhaps because I have no sympathy for these intimidators
Who would force a woman to obey their command.
These are the hypocrites who cite the commandment
Even as they clamor for the death penalty executions
These moralistic men who salute the sanctioned killing in
wars
Dehumanizing the civilians who die as "collateral
damage."
Female choice tends to select men who cooperate
Leading evolution along a path to a peaceful world
Where everyone and everything has a right to exist
Requiring mutual consent to engender new life.
When human pleasure is valued for both men and women
Sexual relations enhance equality in relationships
Begetting children who are all part of the collective family
With the community caring about each and every one of them.
