The screams of terrorized people
Targeted by random acts of violence
Incite the perpetrators acting in cold blood
These monsters created by our culture
When movies make heroes of killing machines
When video games make mayhem entertaining
When ugly slurs dehumanize entire groups
When fear is central to every news broadcast
These are the stories that get published
How the lone gunman wreaked horrible havoc
Murdering the innocents in schools and churches and concerts
Violating the safety so central to our social fabric.
Trump once bragged that he could shoot someone
While standing in the middle of Fifth Avenue
And not lose any supporters and that’s evidently true
Because he is the champion of the white nationalists.
Gallup says there are 40% who approve of Trump
And 99% of those people as we know are white and racist
While the census says that 70% of the population is white
So do the math and a majority of whites are racist.
These are the people I have lived among all my life
Festering in hate for African Americans and many others
Loathing LGBT people, making snide comments about Jews
Degrading women as sexual objects, I have heard it all.
I want to destroy this system that produces these people
That makes enemies of our brothers and sisters
When the real enemy is those who profit from this suffering
Keeping control by dividing us against ourselves.
The true revolutionaries love all the people with a full
heart
Sympathetic to the great difficulties of life in these times
Rising up together in support of each other
Challenging power with pure audacity to seize the day.
