finders keepers
On the first Tuesday evening of every month
The scavengers come looking
To see what is there for the taking
Put at the curb to be taken away
Discards destined for the dump
Attracting the contemporary gleaners
Hunting for items of value frequently found
In this affluent neighborhood
We come here to enjoy the quiet streets
The landscaped properties and grand architecture
For us like a walk in the park
Our after dinner exercise
They come for what is being thrown away
To remove in their dilapidated vans and pickup trucks
Inspecting the piles for things they can use or sell
Hoping to turn trash into cash
The people who live here in their upscale mansions
With their multiple luxury cars and life of privilege
Do not mix with these transient visitors
Staying inside sight unseen
