Walking the beach at night
Eyes wide open in the darkness
Needing only the stars to see the way
Following the line of breaking surf
The crashing waves are all I hear
Viewing the enormous space above
And the endless distances all around
This is a place of peace for me
Walking almost effortlessly
On the firm flat expanse of sand
Moving along looking all around
Identifying planets and patterns
No matter how many steps I take
The beach extends further than I will go
The ocean reaches beyond the horizon
The universe expands beyond immense
My micro movements in this moment
Measured against the elapsed eons of existence
Almost imperceptible in the grand scale of everything
For me time seems to stand still
As the clouds shape shift floating past
Glowing softly in the dim light
And planes criss cross tracing their routes
Bringing me closer to earth
Standing at the edge of the continent
On a barrier island being eaten away by storms
Pausing in front of our short term rental unit
Certain to be swept away one day soon
