I listened to the pharmacy worker
As she injected the vaccine in my arm
Explain that they were understaffed
And unusually busy today
Which is why I had to wait
Long past my appointment time
And I asked if she had lunch
Which started our brief conversation
She said she had two bites of her sandwich
While typing up an order with her other hand
Not complaining still maintaining
Her pleasant customer service voice
Her coworkers were out sick
And she shared what she could tell
Based on the medications being dispensed
Illness is rampant in the community
She complimented me for choosing
To wear a quality mask in the store
Advice she did not follow herself
As she hurried off to the next task
Wearing a mask for just a few minutes
My exposure was minimal
But still I took a hand wipe from the dispenser
On my way out the door
