Listening to his camping misadventure
Happy that he was with his son and some friends
Rolling along without reservations unconcerned
Eventually finding a place for the night
Unprepared for the cold mountain air
Retreating from the tent to sleep in the car
All part of the good times story for him
Told with an excited gleam in his eye
Undeterred by my remark in response
That's a young person's road trip
My camping days are over
Because nothing dampers his spirit
Which I love about him my younger friend
Who explains that's just who he is
And I laugh seeing the photo of him
Included in the message he sent
Standing triumphant with arms raised
Atop the huge wood chips pile
As if proclaiming I'm the king of the mountain
Joyful to be doing what he loves
Habitat restoration at the Celery Farm
An ongoing project with many new volunteers
Because he has that effect on people
Welcoming and appreciating everyone
And I smile seeing the photos of us
That he took catching me unawares
Sent to the entire list of volunteers
Announcing the upcoming work dates
I am very happy standing next to him
The mutual affection I feel shows through
And something of him has rubbed off on me
Being young at heart having fun
