Waking up in a place in the last century
Where there is no cell phone service
Where there is no wifi internet connection
With no email to read or news to browse
Nothing to do but listen to the quiet
The absence of human machine noise
Though this is no wilderness camp here
In a house a short walk to the beach
The Pacific Northwest coast experience
On the steep edge of the continent
Bundled up even in midsummer
While inland roasts in extreme heat
Where the moist ocean air becomes fog
Where the fierce wind seldom subsides
Where the rhythm of the tides is primary
And the restless waves constantly churn
The firm flat sand left as the tide recedes
Between Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda
Perfect for walking in near solitude
Feeling the enormous expanse of sky and sea
Our stay here is a brief interlude
But just for today being disconnected
I am enjoying the intense presence
Surrounding this place
