Mistakenly transformed into a donkey
Then into a fish swallowed by a whale
Then into a crow repeatedly told
What they seek is not possible
At long last finding where it exists
Facing the choice to stay or go back
Perhaps preferring to return home
Left to the reader to write the ending
So I followed along in the book
A work of fiction weaving five plot lines
An entertaining tale of improbable events
Until I realized the connection
With my daughter who was herself reading it
Who is far away now in her extended travels
Who recommended the narrative to me
That speaks to the decision she will make
At the end of a year of exploring far and wide
With the knowledge of what else there is
She and her partner soon must determine
Where they want to be and what they will do
