Thinking about the study you mentioned
About disturbing images that trouble us
That how well you sleep affects your ability
To be able to repress intrusive thoughts
But the carnage in Gaza is qualitatively different
A trauma horrible beyond description
An ongoing massacre in full view
An undeniably racist war crime genocide
Even though I avoid looking at the rubble
I think about the people buried alive
I hear their screams of agony and grief
As the bombs keep falling day after day
The desperate urgency to stop it grips me
Feeling the tightness in my chest
But the longer it goes on the more support
Gathers up worldwide as never before
Exposing the naked reality of occupation
Of a land stolen from the native inhabitants
Forced out into squalid refugee camps
Imprisoned under an apartheid legal system
The brutality meant to crush all resistance
Revealing that everyone in Gaza is a hostage
Demanding our intervention in whatever way we can
That is what cannot be repressed
