The undulating waves approach one after another
A perpetual motion with boundless energy
Always coming towards shore
Where I walk on the edge of the continent
No matter which way the wind blows
No matter the tidal ebb and flow
The ocean deep meets the shallows head on
Bent around by the slope of land
To think of all the waves that have arrived here
Even before anyone had eyes to see them
And all the people who have since looked out to sea
Watching the rolling breakers collapse into foam
Our windows face east towards the sunrise
Waking us from our surf sound sleep
The sight of the restless water greets us
Shape shifting colors beneath the big sky
Out on the beach in the early evening
The sunset recedes behind the dunes
Leaving lovely streaks reaching up and out
Beside Venus appearing at the edge of night
There is a peacefulness being here
Taking in the endless view to the horizon
Appreciating my finite life as it slows down
Aware of the edge of my existence
