If I had my druthers in how people behave
To respect the meaning of sanctuary
A nature preserve deserves reverence
Taking care not to disturb the inhabitants.
To go running there and cause a commotion
Scattering all creatures gone silent and hidden
Taking away the chance for others to enjoy
That is inconsiderate, intended or not.
Move about quietly with a hushed voice
To observe the wildlife briefly appear
Looking closely and listening carefully
Catching a glimpse of their goings on.
To get outside of our self absorbed concerns
We must pause and take a deep breath
Being quiet waiting watchful all around us
Connecting our lives to our earthly existence.
