I pause from my rounds taking photographs
Documenting our group’s activities this week.
The picnic for me is a montage of conversations
Against the backdrop of children playing
Talking with parents with one eye on child care
Shifting their attention from me to them as needed.
Talking also with those who are not parents
Some are feeling a bit out of place here
If being a parent is not part of your life plan
With no urge to personally propagate the species.
We are all so closely related that your children are my
children.
We are a large group gathered among other groups in the park
Each group doing its separate similar thing having fun
Taking time out from a workday to enjoy being together.
I think that a life plan is a kind of personal myth we live.
If your wish is to do good, making a difference
Helping people who need help
What we do together can help achieve that goal for you.
The story of our enterprise fits the mold
As a successful business startup
Created out of a good idea at the right time
Now grown to a staff of 50.
The story of our company gets retold by the sales team
As our lives are lived in a tapestry of myths
Though all of us are ordinary people.
Heroes eat soup like anyone else.
Living inside our very real lives
We are seldom aware of the mythical framework.
The pictures I take today of this moment in time
Get folded and shaped into that mythology.
