amplified distance
for Rosie
You improvised a solution
To hearing aids in need of repair
Holding your phone to your ear
As I called you on my cell phone
Sitting across from you
Hearing my voice echo
The walls of that room expanded
To the nearest cell tower and back
The distance between us
Amplified and reverberating
Me soft spoken and speaking slowly
My short phrases and pauses
Audible and comprehensible
But such a separation in space
Better to speak up almost shouting
Getting very close beside you.
