omicron explosion
Omicron is coming for us ready or not
With the emphasis on not
Starting with everyone who is in denial
The contagion will seek us all out
Start with two and keep doubling it every two days
Then after sixty days there will be two billion more
That's the rate of omicron spreading infection
But we are already well past day one
Even if the symptoms are mild for most people
Who are vaccinated and boosted or lucky
The hospitals will be overwhelmed in crisis
With so many sick at the same time
The defiant people insisting on their freedom
To risk exposing those around them to the virus
Whose antisocial behavior ends up killing people
Should be arrested and charged with a crime
With more than 800,000 deaths and counting
With the dubious distinction of leading the world
The pandemic disaster in this country is made worse
With its free market capitalist ideology behind it
When it is impossible to have an effective response
Without the necessary public health system
That does not exist because that way is socialism
Then socialism is the way for us to go

living with uncertainty
We all live with uncertainty
Some more than others
My youngest daughter for one
Well knows this part of existence
We go along expecting tomorrow
Our lives will be much the same
Making plans assuming that
The way things are now will continue
Until one test leads to another and another
Until a diagnosis alters our reality
Waiting for procedures and waiting for results
To determine the next decision tree option
It's not the best news but not so bad
To need ongoing treatment trials
To manage the symptoms
To be monitored with frequent testing
You will still have your life to live
Apart from this time in the medical maze
Making the adjustment to a new normal routine
Engaging with everything that matters to you
Adverse events no one could foresee
Or something wrong you never suspected
Make for a heightened appreciation
Aware just how precious life is
