one brain

I get the feeling we have one brain

Thinking the same thing at the same time

As happened just now reminding me

It happens often including yesterday

When we are together almost inseparable

Grown intertwined knowing each other

You speak and I hear my thoughts expressed

Sensing our synchronous consciousness

Sometimes you ask me to come up with a word

Giving me the first letter and the meaning

Since I enjoy solving crossword puzzles

The language function is my better half

Sometimes you tell me what bird is singing

Or any number of other things I forget

And so between the two of us

Our halves combine to make us whole

We are gentle quiet people contemplating

Understanding much without talking

Except to exchange ideas and information

Learned through our extensive readings

There is no drama since we agree

Just a contented companionship

Living our life together as a couple

Pairing our concerns and happiness

conditions exist

Some things are hard to ignore

Like the twinkling arc of wavelets

That dance in my left eye sometimes

Unwelcome interference making vision difficult.

Then there are bouts of sciatica you treat as noise

Like the old refrigerator droning on and on

Or the growl of yard maintenance machines next door

When we would like to sit outside and talk.

These are the minor annoyances of everyday life

A nuisance but not life threatening

Capturing our attention for a while before passing

If we cannot shut them out of our thoughts.

Some things are impossible to ignore

Try as we might to carry on as before

Doing what we have been doing all along

As if nothing exists unless we let it.

When people come together with shared purpose

It seems that all things are possible

Though over time that inspiration can devolve

If personal conflicts are not resolved amicably.

I remain an optimist despite everything

Knowing the conditions demand organization

Dedicated to an economy with an ecology awareness

Predicated on our global social well being.
